St. Mary's Church building, with all church buildings in the Diocese of Western Newfoundland, will be closed for the next three weeks. Please see below the letter from Bishop John Organ:
Greetings in Christ,
Given the recent increase of Covid-19 cases in our beloved Province, and after thoughtful conversation and prayerful consideration with our clergy, and wanting to do our part to stop the spread of Covid-19, all our church buildings in the Diocese of Western Newfoundland (and Southern Labrador) will be closed beginning Sunday, February 14, until at least Sunday, February 28, 2021. Effective February 14, as well, all groups that meet at our church buildings will cease until further notice, including, as agreed to by city clergy, Open Door. We are deeply sorry for any difficulty this may cause and do so with the hope that short term loss will lead to long term gain.
We have made the decision to close our church buildings now out of an abundance of caution, to help control the spread of the virus, and to keep our clergy, our parishioners, and our neighbours safe.
We will listen attentively to the daily briefings of our Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Fitzgerald, and adhere to all current and any new restrictions and directions provided by her. We now return to non in-person, exclusively virtual, worship. With the exception of funerals, weddings, and provision of pastoral care, which will continue under the current restrictions and with the utmost attention to ensuring safety.
It our hope and prayer that in the coming weeks the number of Covid-19 cases will again be reduced to zero. For individuals currently infected by the coronavirus, we assure them, their families, and all medical personnel, of our prayers.
Your servant in Christ,
